Alberta man charged in brutal attacks on Vancouver prostitute Canadian Press, Tuesday, April 25, 2000 VANCOUVER (CP)—An Alberta man has been charged in several brutal attacks on prostitutes in Vancouver. Barry Niedermeyer, 43, was arrested in Lethbridge, Alta., last week and will be returned to Vancouver to stand trial, Vancouver police said Tuesday. He faces 14 counts of assault, sex assault, kidnapping, unlawful confinement and administering a noxious substance. The Vancouver assaults took place between 1995 and 1997 on the city’s notorious downtown east side. Const. Anne Drennan, the spokeswoman for Vancouver police, said Niedermeyer was identified during an investigation of the disappearance of 27 sex-trade workers in Vancouver. She said he remains a person of interest in those cases. Drennan said Niedermeyer is also a suspect in a number of assaults in Lethbridge, Calgary and Edmonton.
