Police
call for national data base
VANCOUVER
(CKNW/AM980) -- The
Vancouver Police Department is gradually finding more of the women whose
names have been linked to the spectre of a serial killer, preying on
hookers and drug addicts who populate the city's downtown east side. The
most recent discoveries of two more women on the list has again brought
home the benefit of maintaining a national registry for social
assistance. The police tracked down two of the women on the list last
week through a time-consuming check of the medical data bases in each
Canadian province. The police are now repeating their call for a
national data base which could greatly improve chances of finding the
remaining 27 women on the list. Each province handles its own social
assistance programs and while there have been discussions about setting
up a national registry, nothing has been done in that regard.
