VANCOUVER EASTSIDE MISSING WOMEN |
|
|
‘How insensitive’ to Downtown Eastside The Province Sunday, March 14, 2004 I am so outraged at the insensitivity of the newspaper article about the Pickton farm. Making statements such as "city slum" and "eating the bodies of their friends" is so insensitive to the families of these women. The Downtown Eastside is a community -- one of the most economically disadvantaged communities in Canada. It may seem like a slum to those who "have" but to people who live in the community it is their home. For far too long people have come into this neighbourhood to sit in judgment of people who live in the Downtown Eastside. They pass judgment on the fact we are living in poverty and this is the best we can afford. Marlene Trick, Vancouver © The Vancouver Province 2004 |
