Police needed a push

Congratulations to Lindsay Kines, Kim Bolan and Lori Culbert for their honourable mention for public service journalism (Sun stories on missing women honoured, May 1).
Clearly, their persistent, analytical and thorough coverage of the women missing from our Downtown Eastside was critical to galvanizing the Vancouver police department to improve an abysmal investigation.
We hope that, under national and international scrutiny for this case, police response to assaulted women will improve regardless of whether a woman is a prostitute or married to the assaulter.
