Chief won’t rule out public inquiry

VANCOUVER -- Vancouver police say their new chief is not ruling out a public inquiry into the missing women investigation.
In a television interview, chief Jamie Graham said he would not call for a public inquiry.
Police spokesman Scott Driemel says an inquiry right now might jeoparadize the current investigation, which has led to seven murder charges against a Port Coquitlam man.
Driemel says Graham will welcome a public inquiry if it's ordered after the current investigation is complete.
Driemel notes a public inquiry at this time has also been rejected by both the Solicitor General and the Police Complaints Commissioner.
Police have been sharply criticized by some of the families of the more than 50 missing women, who say the police did not properly follow up leads offered years ago.
Robert Pickton was charged with seven counts of first-degree murder after police found human remains at his farm.
Police are still scouring the farm for more evidence.
